Product Description

Previous page How did we get our start? The first Pawleys Island rope hammock was handcrafted by South Carolina riverboat captain Joshua John Ward in 1889 remains the heart of our brand even now. We've seen countless knockoffs of the design through the years, yet there's only ever been one Original. What makes our products unique? Our promise to you remains the same today as it has been for more than 130 years now: craftsmanship, quality and tradition woven together in a slice of that relaxed live-oak lifestyle of the old coastal South, right there in your own back yard. Why do we love what we do? It's fundamental to us that our customers are able to trust us to support them and the ones they love in exceptional comfort, style and safety. Product Features

[DURACORD ROPE]: Synthetic blend that is soft as cotton with durability of polyester. This rope is All-Weather and resistant to rot, mold and mildew. DuraCord is the densest rope on the market resulting in less stretch and increased support when relaxing.

[OAK SPREADER BAR]: Premium Oak hardwood that has been repeatedly hand-dipped in a honey gold marine-grade varnish for protection and longevity.

[DOUBLE-LATCH WEAVE]:Individual ropes are handwoven to pull against each other to produce a lattice-like design, eliminating the need for knots within the rope bed. This also allows us to use almost twice the amount of rope in each hammock than most of our competitors.

[ZINC PLATED HARDWARE]: We plate all our hardware, with zinc to protect against rust and ensure an overall longer outdoor life.

[HANDCRAFTED IN THE CAROLINAS]: Assembled using the finest parts and industry leading techniques.

Bought for a friend because I had purchased one over 20 years ago and it is still going strong. These folks started making their hammocks in Pawley's Island, South Carolina and the original hammock shop is still there.Plenty of hammocks out there, but this is the best you can buy - at any price!Have had numerous Pawley's Island hammocks in the past. Glad to have another.Happy with itThis is my second exact same hammock…first one lasted 15 years! Need to know anything else?!?!This hammock is the best...large comfortable and holds up to the elementsover 20 YAG I bought the same hammock and it gas been out in the weather from places like MN and now GA. I replaced the original hammock simply because the hammock cords were falling apart. FYI the real reason is sun light - si buy the more expensive version which includes man made fibers. These hammocks are made in Pauleys Island SC where the original people were descendants of African slaves and spoke a language called Gullah which is a combination of African and English. BTW the whole coast from VA to FL is the birthplace of our nation - visit if U can.I am happy with my new hammock. It replaces another Pawley’s Island hammock I had for over thirty years. The accompanying hardware is a nice touch; however, I have an old hammock stand —also a Pawley’s Island product—and the chains that came with my new hammock were too short. I am glad I kept the old chains because I needed them to hang the new one. The chains that came with the hammock do not come off unless you have a chain cutter. I would suggest to this seller to send the chains as a separate unit and make them about nine inches longer for each customer’s need. My hammock now has two sets of chains. It looks all right, but it would look better if the chains were not part of the hammock itself. Nice product. I love the dark green. It will not show stains as readily as my old one did.I recently purchased this hammock for my parents to replace the one they currently had. They had left the previous hammock out in the rain, and some interesting growth was forming on the rope. I bought this particular hammock in the hopes that the Duracord would perform as promised- it would still look good after being left outside. It delivers on its promise and is still very comfortable! That being said, I do not find the Duracord to be quite as comfortable as the previous cotton cord hammock- the cotton was a softer material. The softness is not a huge deal, though, because the Duracord maintains its appearance nicely. I was also surprised to find that when I went out to the hammock after a heavy rainfall, the Duracord material was as dry as if it had been baking in the sun for the past 2 days.Outside of the Duracord material, I found this hammock to be nicely constructed overall. Some of the knots appear to be a little sloppy in how they were tied, but these knots are in an out of the way area of the hammock, so It'll be all right with no one or nothing messing with it. The wooden bars are nicely protected from the elements with the coating they put on it.Quick Recap:Pros-Awesome Duracord material looks nice, stays drySolidly constructed hammock overallCons-Duracord material not quite as soft as previous cotton hammocksome knots are a little sloppy in how they were tiedOverall Opinion-Great Hammock, definitely worth the cost!Other than a glitch in the shipping which was the fault of FedEx. It's an awesome hammock according to my friend who I bought this for. Makes a great Muskoka Cottage warming gift.
